Number Four (aka Daniel Jones; John Smith) from I Am Number Four is Daniel Jones and the protagonist of the story. Having been raised by a man named Henri, he learned when he was almost nine years old that he wasn't human, that he came from a planet that no longer exists. He also learns that there are those who would love to kill him and the other 'legacies' who were sent to Earth. They are all connected to one another and when one is killed, the remaining legacy children receive a scar. Henri is known as a Cepan, which means that he was charged with guarding, raising, and educating Daniel when the time came. When danger almost catches up with them in Florida, they have to move again. This time to Ohio. Now that Daniel has reached maturity his powers are beginning to manifest, making him even easier for the Mogadorians to find.
