David says at one point that he must never do anything without thinking. Do you think this is necessary?

Why or why not?
David is in a precarious position. The fact that he is a stranger, unaware of his real surroundings, and hesitant about who he can trust means that he is in constant danger. A rash move could make things worse, thus, he does have to think carefully about his actions.
