Who is Fedmahn Kassad from The Rise of Endymion and what is their importance?

Fedmahn Kassad is one of the original Hyperion pilgrims. He is a man out of time, thanks to his involvement with Rachel Weintraub. Described as a fierce warrior and military tactician, Kassad will eventually travel far into the distant future, where he will be used as a template for the construction of the Shrike.
