Baudelaire uses "demonic" imagery such as flaring suns and burning sunsets, which suggest the fires of hell to describe "Beauty". He balances this imagery, however, with the calm image of "phantom fragrance", which serves to contradict the harshness of the demon imagery that precedes it.
