What is the source of the rumor that the Old Witch had possessed a great deal of money?

The source of the rumor is the fact that the Old Witch's longtime lover Manolo had possessed a great deal of money himself. When he died suddenly of a reported heart attack, Manolo Conde's sons had rushed to the vigil, where they immediately accused the Old Witch of not only killing their father, but for robbing him as well. The main symbol of this imagined wealth in the hands of the Old Witch, and then after her death, in the hands of her daughter the Witch, is a diamond ring that had reportedly belonged to Manolo Conde's wealthy grandmother. It is said to have an enormous stone, but Melchor is careful to include the fact that no one currently alive has ever laid eyes on it.
