For Munra, salsa dancing represents the man he used to be, before the car accident mangled his leg. Having avoided an amputation only by sneaking out of the hospital with his wife Chabela's help, Munra is left with a leg that still remains, but is of little use. As a result, salsa dancing and the respect he earned from those in the community because of his considerable dancing skills were lost in the moment he was hit by the truck.
