Within the pages of Hurricane Season, Melchor wants to make a point about how women are vilified for stepping outside of the accepted cultural norm. She further wants to underscore the idea that in patriarchal cultures, women are often accused of using their bodies to manipulate men, of doing everything they can to seek out sexual pleasure, and of operating covertly on every level. Melchor fulfills all of these goals in Chapter II when she provides details about the hidden statue supposedly hidden somewhere in the Witch's house.
