Hunting by Stars is written from a series of perspectives, but the novel never becomes completely omniscient. The author identifies the character in charge of the perspective at the beginning of each chapter, and the perspective remains focused on that character throughout that chapter. There are a few things that are seen from more than one perspective. For example, Rose believes that she and Derrick have left camp without letting anyone know where they are going.
