What plans does Halley have for New Year's Eve., and what actually happens in the story, Someone Like You?

Halley sneaks out with Macon on New Year's Eve, intending to have sex with him, but changes her mind when she sees where he takes her. The party is loud and the house is a pig pen. Upstairs, the bedroom smells like cat litter and the bed is only now being vacated by the young couple who rutted before them. Halley changes her mind, becoming physically ill, and Macon finally loses his patience. In his anger driving her home, he gets into an accident which hospitalizes her. Halley grows up in that moment, realizing she wants more from life. She deserves to love, and to have a man who loves her. Halley says goodbye to Macon, and helps Scarlett to deliver a healthy baby girl.
