Why does Karen call Fowler for support?

Karen calls Fowler for support because Will has left his family over the holidays to deal with Tom's estate. He does not come home as promised, and Karen begins to feel very lonely. She knows it's wrong to call Fowler, but she needs some comfort, and he makes her feel good about herself.
