Who is Karen Navidson from House of Leaves and what is their importance?

Karen is Will's love interest and later his wife. She had a difficult life and was raised in a dysfunctional family, which included a sexually abusive step-father. Karen and Will have two children. At the end of the novel, it is Karen who saves Will's life by extracting him from the fire.
