What are the only two reasons Johnny has for leaving his apartment after he slips into insanity?

Johnny has completely barricaded himself in his apartment, leaving only to visit the grocery store where he buys tuna fish--the only thing he eats, leading him to lose 18 pounds--or to visit the library. His landlord is trying to evict him, and his neighbors are terrified of him.
