What does Violin represent?

Olya's violin is symbolic of meaning and purpose. At the start of the short story, Olya is devoted to her musical practice. However, she soon abandons the practice and stops saving to buy the instrument that she needs. Her waning interest in her violin conveys the absence of meaning and purpose from her life.
