In Chapter 1, what are Murad thoughts about the trip?

Murad thinks about the fact that the trip is only 14 kilometers. The trip might take as little as 30 minutes if the weather is good. He thinks about what he will do on the other--a job, a car, a house. Other times he thinks about the coast guards, the frigid water, and the money he will have to borrow. Sometimes he wonders how 14 kilometers can separate not just two countries but two universes.
