Who is Patrizia from History: A Novel and what is their importance?

Patrizia is Nino's lover. She is acquainted with Useppe because she met him while out with Nino. After Nino dies, Patrizia goes to Useppe in order to show him his new niece. This was the first Useppe heard of Nino's death.
