One major theme in the novel, Here I Stand: A Life of Martin Luther, is standing up for your beliefs. During Luther's lifetime, he stepped forward and questioned traditions that had been upheld in the Church for hundreds of years. He was cajoled, begged, condemned, and excommunicated for his beliefs, but he never stood down.... he stood up, even if he was the only one standing.
