Although the couple entertained a lifestyle in which they could pursue other lovers, Hugo knew that Nin was passionate about people's minds and talent. Miller was an incredibly intelligent and talented writer and Hugo feared that Nin would actually fall in love with him. She tried to reassure him, though he remained unconvinced.
