Why does the chorus have an apologetic tone concerning the play?

The chorus is apologetic because he realizes that a stage performance cannot possibly display the grandeur of a royal court, the intensity of the battle field, and several years of history in a few hours. A few actors will have to represent several people and the audience will have to use its imagination about the horses and even the royal robes of the king.
