When the boy is left alone, he reflects on Pistol's lack of valor and thinks that of the three men he worked for, that Pistol has the least valor of all. He notes that the other two men, Nym and Bardolph, have now been hanged for their crimes and it is only because Pistol lacks the bravery to steal anything of any real value that he has not also been hanged. He compares Pistol to an empty vessel that makes a loud noise but holds nothing of value. The boy is also concerned that only he and other boys have been left to guard the luggage and would be easy prey for the French.
