When Williams sees Fluellen wearing his glove in his cap, he strikes Fluellen thinking this is the man he made quarrel with in the hours before the battle. Henry, however, had told Fluellen that the glove belonged to a French duke he had killed in battle and that anyone challenging the person wearing the glove would be a friend of the duke and obviously a traitor. Williams insists he is not a traitor, but that he wants to fight with the man to whom he had given the glove. Henry enters the scene and states he is the man with whom Williams has a quarrel and shows that he has Williams' other glove to prove this. Williams profusely apologizes to Henry for thinking he was a commoner, but asserts that Henry was partly to blame for the misunderstanding. Henry grants Williams a pardon and even tells Exeter to fill Williams' glove with money before returning it to him.
