The Dauphin sends King Henry a gift of tennis balls to suggest that Henry is still a youth whose time would be better spent playing games, not involving himself in serious matters of state. King Henry tells the French ambassador to inform the Dauphin that he (the Dauphin) will soon regret the insulting gesture because France will experience far more suffering that any laughter the jest may have provoked.
