When Pistol encounters a French soldier, he demands that he stop. The soldier tries to appeal to Pistol by saying that he is a gentleman of good quality, but Pistol does not understand what the man is saying. The Frenchman begs Pistol to show him mercy, but Pistol thinks the soldier is offering to pay him to let him go. Pistol calls over the boy to help translate. They learn that the soldier is from a good family who will pay two hundred crowns for his ransom and Pistol agrees to these terms.
