In Chapter 5, what does Virgil suspect is wrong with Gulliver, and why does he think this?

In Chapter 5, Virgil thinks that Gulliver is depressed because he has been living alone for the past 18 months. Virgil thinks that guinea pigs are not supposed to live alone and this is why Gulliver is depressed.
