The narrator decides to travel to the town of X in the final chapter in order to continue her journey. She is seeking a future for herself and her unborn child. Rather than returning to what she knows in England, her discoveries of Olivia and her decisions lead her to pursue her own and different future. Unlike Olivia, she is choosing her child over the man who gave it to her.
