Why does Douglas accept the Nawab's presence in his home so readily in Section 12?

Douglas readily accepts the Nawab's presence in his home in Section 12 for two reasons. First, he is flattered by the Nawab's compliments on the way he handled the suttee death. Second, it never occurs to him that there is anything amiss. Douglas would never consider the possibility that his wife would act in such a dishonorable way.
