In Section 20, the piano is important because the Nawab invites only Olivia to come with him to a back room to see the pianos he had bought for his wife. He asks her to play, and then loses interest and leaves. Olivia has to find her way back through the maze of halls on her own. This all speaks to how he treats others as secondary to his own wants, and that Olivia is happy enough to indulge him and just follow along.
