Why does Rachel feel a sense of relief when she discovers Mark's affair in the novel, Heartburn?

Rachel has always seen marriage as a refuge.... something safe and stale, without excitement. When she discovers Mark's affair, she has a sense of relief that finally something new is happening to her.
