Why is Marlow "annoyed beyond expression"?

Just 8 miles from the inner station, daylight runs out and Marlow has to lay over for the night. Despite the danger in moving ahead in the dark, Marlow is "annoyed beyond expression." Why?

They were only three miles from Kurtz's station. Marlow wanted to keep going but the manager insisted on waiting out the night. Marlow was annoyed at being so close to his objective yet having to wait until the morning.
