how does marlow and kurtz's relationship based aboit both friendship and betrayal

Marlow doesn't spend much time with Kurtz. Marlow is attracted to the enigma and mystery of Kurtz before he meets him but this quickly dissipates when he finds that Kurtz is not much better than the Europeans who exploit the natives.
