how do the natives respond to the boat and kurtz?

I'm not sure I follow you. Kurtz has been with the natives before the story started. Kurtz has set himself up a a God-like king among the natives. He, however, exploits them for the ivory trade. THe ship comes uder attack a few times in the story.
