Max begins to fuss. Nicholas takes him upstairs to change his diaper and immediately gets christened by the baby's urine. Nicholas curses, imagining Paige in the baby's place. Nicholas takes Max downstairs and puts him in the highchair before he begins to search for the formula and baby bottles. It takes Nicholas a few minutes to work the whole thing out, and, when he does, he turns to the highchair and discovers the baby gone. Nicholas searches all the downstairs rooms before he finds the baby has slid under the tray on the highchair. Again Nicholas curses Paige for having the highchair in the kitchen if the baby is too small to use it. Nicholas feeds his son in the dark nursery until the baby falls asleep. Nicholas then moves the baby to the crib, only to have him wake the instant his body touches the mattress. Nicholas recalls finding Paige in their bed with the sleeping baby and urging her to move him into the nursery so as to not begin a bad habit. Now he understands her silent movements throughout the house attempting to not wake the baby.
