Rowling narrates "The Chamber of Secrets" through a third-person omniscient narrator. This means that we as readers often know more than the characters, and this creates suspense as we wait to see when the characters will discover what we already know.

The language used by Rowling is powerful and evocative for many reasons. Written in modern English in a fictional style to entertain readers, Rowling cleverly uses language to grab attention and paint clear pictures of events for her readers. Her writing style is highly descriptive and figurative. Her descriptions make use of a whole spectrum of techniques, from simple use of adverbs and adjectives to more complicated descriptions involving metaphors and similes. Rowling's figurative language allows us to understand exactly what the characters are experiencing.
