Perhaps the most famous example of Shakespeare's use of anachronism can be found in Act 2, Scene 1 of Julius Caesar. Ffter the stage directions say “Clock strikes,” Brutus tells Cassius to “count the clock,” and Cassius says it “hath stricken three.” ... The first weight-driven mechanical clock was recorded in England in 1283, more than 1300 years after Caesar's death.
