Loons are an ironic symbol of freedom. Loons are trapped by their circumstances. Though they have the power to fly, they cannot always get away or are able to leave. Likewise, Grandma Lilah has a brilliant mind, but it does not always work. She is trapped by her mind. Grandma Lilah and loons are therefore reflective of one another as well.
