After proposing the obvious—that Caliban would have been treated the way Native Americans were treated, and killed or enchained, Leggs proposes that Caliban is Prospero’s child by Sycorax, and that after he has been raised so wild, that Caliban represents Prospero’s “bad other self” (274). Leggs says that Prospero recognizes Caliban, and tries to do right by him. He helps him start a career as a musician in the band “Hag-Seed and the Things of Darkness” (274).
