How does Grendel react to the harp player?

Chapter Four? Grendel reacts with disbelief, holding the body of a man who's been murdered. He is confused by the Shaper's words, and almost believes them himself, but realizes the body he carries is that of a man killed by other men..... proof that the enmity between monster and man isn't true.
