Mary Hallaren is from Massachusetts and is a junior high school teacher when the attack of Pearl Harbor occurs. She joins the WAACs. She serves in England, France and Italy and after the war, transformed the WAACs in to the Woman's Army Corps. She worked to give women a permanent place in the military. She becomes head of the Women's Army Corps until she retires in 1960. Mary became active in WICS, the recruitment part of the Job Corps program.
