Fossey struggled with the task of finding suitable candidates for the student worker program. The problem was that most of the students were there to finish doctorate work or had some personal reason for choosing to work there. To Fossey, this meant that they weren't overly interested in the needs of the animals but wanted to focus more on their own personal goals.
