Fossey talks about her efforts to gain funding and her pay for the work. She did not draw a salary and did not believe any of the other researchers working in the field should either. There was funding for the research and there were usually either grants available to pay for equipment of those who come with specific study topics. Although Fossey was very busy, she often took time to travel to America or England to complete work that could not be done in the field and/or to write grants for additional funding.
