What methods did Fossey initially use to identify the gorillas?

Individual gorillas are not easy to recognize or identify. Fossey had to learn how to tell them apart. The best way to identify them was to take "nose prints." Like a human's fingerprints, gorillas have very specific and unique nose prints. Fossey also used photographs for identification purposes.
