Fossey left Africa and returned to her home in Louisville, Kentucky. Fossey went back to work to repay the loan for the African trip. An opportunity arose when Fossey was approached by Dr. Leakey. Leakey told Fossey that there was a source of funding available for a long-term study of gorillas. Fossey jumped at the chance and began to make arrangements to return to Africa.
