What happened between Fossey and a student that wanted to claim a trophy to take home?

Not long after Rafiki died, a student went to Fossey with a bag filled with a putrid smelling substance. The youth told Fossey that Rafiki's skin was in the bag and that he wanted to take it home as a trophy. Fossey was immediately stunned and outraged. Fossey saw Rafiki as a dignified, magnificent and powerful animal. Clearly the student did not. Fossey confiscated the skin.
