Fossey tells about Beethoven's choice to move Group 5 to a subalpine meadow far beyond their territory. Fossey theorizes that Beethoven might have been attempting to bait the fringe group to get revenge. The main concern was that the meadow was a poachers' paradise. There was no way Fossey's team could disable the traps to protect the gorillas. As soon as one trap would be destroyed, one or two more would take its place. Although Fossey did not want to interfere, she had no choice. Students and workers were sent to act as poachers to indirectly guide Beethoven and his group back home.
