Explain Fossey's first trek into the gorillas' territory. Who accompanied Fossey? Why?

Two weeks after the incident at the excavation site, Fossey hobbled into the area known for gorilla population. Fossey was accompanied by a new acquaintance, Alan Root, who was a photographer, and his wife, Joan. The Roots were from Kenya and are conducting a study on mountain gorillas. Root wanted to photograph the initial meeting between Fossey and the gorillas. The film would also prove to be a valuable tool to Fossey as an addition to her work. Fossey gives much credit to the Roots for permitting her to barge into their workshop and for playing tour guide to some of Fossey's first trips into the wild.
