Fossey was on a regular search for various animals. While climbing through dense vegetation, Fossey latched onto what she thought was a thick vine. It was not. The "wine" turned out to be a buffalo. Fossey startled the buffalo to the extent that it left "odoriferous deposits" all over Fossey.
