Chaerephon, a disciple of Socrates, assists Socrates when necessary to unfold the argument. His speech and words emulate those of his master, and he imitates the manner in which Socrates asks questions. While rendering his aid, he is also learning. Chaerephon is obviously well known in social circles, and his ability to arrange the meeting indicates that he is also popular. With his talkative and friendly nature, he is able to fulfill his master's desire to question Gorgias.
