Who is Eddie Lazzuti from Going After Cacciato and what is their importance?

Eddie is a member of the platoon and stands in for Nystrom after he shoots himself in the foot...... his reason? He believes himself to have the perfect voice for radio. We don't get to know Eddie well, but the tragedy of war is evident in his tears.
