Longstreet commanded the other corps of Lee's army. He is described as a somber, quiet man, whose four children died of a fever shortly after the war began. Although he was Jackson's superior, Longstreet commanded about the same number of troops. He tended to be more cautious than Jackson, but he was still an excellent commander.
