The book is written in first person and entirely from Spenser's point of view. The limited perspective could be overly limiting in some situations, but isn't particularly a problem in this case. Spenser's thoughts and observations are included in the story line, as well as descriptions of people, places and events in which he is involved.
The book is divided into twenty-six chapters of varying lengths, and there are some extensive descriptions that some readers may find distracting.
