In Chapter 14, Annik is portrayed as an extremely good drawing coach. She somewhat embarrasses Lena by chastising her for not drawing her as she sees her, in her wheelchair. Lena had thought about drawing the chair, but she decided not to accentuate Annik's condition. Annik explains the chair is part of her, and in order to capture her as she really is, the chair must be included. This is a metaphor for a broader lesson about learning to see, accept, love and appreciate yourself and others as they really are, not as you would like them to be.
